3 different smoothies

I just love smoothies. Whether they are red, green or yellow. They are a perfect snack, got a lot of vitamins and usually they are kind of sweet due to the fruits. Well, ok, the green ones not so much but you have way less fruit in there. When I have long days at the university, I sometimes need a smoothie to built up some energy again and keep me from eating chocolate for energy but actually I love smoothies like every day. Best thing about them is that you can take whatever you have left at home for your smoothie. When I talk about these smoothies, I don’t mean those you can buy. I mean those you can make yourselves.

Of course, you can go shopping for a smoothie as well, like if I want a mango I have to buy it. Usually I don’t have any mango at home.

When we drink a smoothie after working out or running, I usually add some quark or buttermilk, it tastes great and got a lot of proteins. They are a bit thicker than usual smoothies and I think they fill you up even more.

For the red one I used frozen berries because the strawberries you get here now are from Spain. First of all, I am allergic to those and second I prefer things from Germany, like regional ans seasonal food. Sometimes we pick some ourselves but usually our supermarket has fresh ones from a farm nearby. But in the meantime I have to take frozen fruits.

Usually, I use a banana for every smoothie, but an avocado is fine as well. Most important thing is that it is creamy and those to bring that. Today is about the colors so I chose a banana because it doesn’t have a real color.

Not everyone likes green smoothies, I get that. Lars hates them, I like them when I make them. Those you can buy usually contain spinach or savoy and that is too bitter for me. I prefer cucumber and lamb’s lettuce with banana. I love that but I know, not everyone does.

If you keep them in the fridge, they last for 24 hours. And when I use less liquid, my 8-month old godchild is very happy about it, too. There you could leave out the juice and just take water and it would be perfectly healthy. My godchild eats almost everything but actually I am not sure whether he would also like a green smoothie:D

Now we get to the recipes: each one is in between 500 and 700 ml

Yellow smoothie:

  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 apple
  • 1/2 mango
  • 100g yoghurt
  • juice of one orange
  • about 200 ml passion fruit juice (I use to mix it half/half with water)

Red smoothie:

  • 1 banana
  • 100g frozen berries

  • 250ml cranberry juice with waterIMG_4021

Green smoothie:

  • 250ml water and juice (I took passion fruit since I had some left from the yellow smoothie:D)

  • 1/2 banana
  • 2 huge hands full of lettuce
  • 1/2 avocado
  • juice of half a lemon

It is so easy to prepare:

Puree it! 😀 I usually start with the fruits and when they are creamy enough, I add the liquid. The longer you blend it, the smoother it gets. You can always add yoghurt or quark, it is so tasty 😉

I hope you like the recipe and enjoy it, Jana
