2 really great steak sandwiches

Finally, we managed to get some nice pics of our all-time favorite steak sandwiches. We always loved the sandwiches but until today the pictures were not good enough to show them off. It might be thanks to our new reflector. This thingy is very good and very life-threatening at the same time. At least when to try to unpack or pack it. There is so much tension that when you are not careful enough, this thing might your head very bad. Happened to Jana and was very funny to me (at least). So we’re getting to the sandwich: Choose a team and choose wisely 😉
Team Jana: Flanksteak, Balsamic/red wine onions and salad
Team Lars: Flanksteak, cream cheese herb dip and braised onions with mushrooms and cheddar

Of course, both versions are very good but I guess you know which one I like better, right? Which one do you prefer?

  • 100g Steak (we used flank steak)
  • 2 onions
  • salad
  • 200ml red wine (or more, you need to drink sth;) )
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp balsamic-vinegar
  • 3 twigs thyme
  • 1/2 lemon
  • salt, pepper, olive oil

  • 100g Steak (Flank steak again)
  • 2 onions
  • 3 mushrooms
  • 100g cheddar
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese
  • salad
  • 1 tbsp yoghurt
  • 2-3 twigs thyme
  • 1 spring onion
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • salt, pepper, olive oil

  1. Cut the onion in semi-rings and glaze them in a pot. Then add red wine ( Glass and pot), sugar and balsamic vinegar, some salt and thyme. Let it reduce at medium heat until you get a consistency somehow like jam. If it is not thick enough, add some vinegar or sugar.
  2. Fry the meat in a very very hot pan for about 40-60 seconds each side, depending on how thick it is, it might be longer. Exact numbers are always hard but you might wanna check out the pressure test.
  3. Get the steak out of the pan and let it rest for 2-3 minutes. In the meantime you can cover one side of the bread with the balsamic red wine onions and the other side with salad, lemon and olive oil.
  4. Cut the steak in slices and season it with salt and pepper and put it on top of the onions.

  1. Take a bowl and add cream cheese, yoghurt, chopped spring onion, chopped garlic, salt and thyme and mix it with a whisk.
  2. Now cut the onions in semi-rings and quarter the mushrooms. Put it in a pan with a piece of butter and fry it at high heat until it’s brown. Now put the pan aside and add the cheddar.
  3. Put the steak in a really really hot pan and let it fry 40-60 seconds each side. Exact numbers are always hard but you might wanna check out the pressure test.
  4. Now spread the cream cheese on one half of the bread and top it with onions and mushrooms. After 5 minutes of resting, you can cut the steak in slices, season it and put it on your sandwich.

We love medium rare so these number here might vary for you. I know that some prefer it well-done or more medium or whatever so that’s what the pressure test is for.
